One of the few heart-warming stories in the secondary ticket market

If we were to bring you every single ‘scam’ story or tale of heartbreak because of tickets purchased through the secondary market that would be a lifetime’s work for hundreds of writers working around the clock, and so many of the stories would be heart-breakers. But don’t take our word for it. All you need to do to get the measure of the secondary platforms is to visit third-party review sites like Trust Pilot and type in the name of the companies who dominate these resale channels.

But from the New Paper in Singapore comes a wonderful story about how an online Liverpool supporters group came together to crowdfund the purchase of real tickets [for the recent Liverpool v West Ham match] after a husband and wife were scammed over Facebook but not before flying all the way from SE Asia. They didn’t realise the scam until after handing over cash for a pair of tickets that they letter discovered were forgeries.

Wife Nurazila Suparman expressed the emotion many feel when discovering the ruthless tactics and deception practised as a matter of course in the secondary market: ‘We were heartbroken and disappointed. I cried not because of how much money we had wasted, but the fact that this trip was now for nothing.

‘One moment we thought we were finally going to realise a dream and then suddenly it was such a nightmare.’

Please do remember – official ticket plus hospitality is the best way.

Thankfully – and unusually – this story has a happy ending: ‘Literally, it was the club's motto in action - You'll never walk alone. We really felt the love.’
