India now and in the future: a DAIMANI perspective

The two largest markets that our DAIMANI colleague Charlie Charters handles are China and India from his base in Hong Kong. Both have been seriously impacted by the coronavirus but are at different stages of the global pandemic: India is now where China was in January/February, struggling with an infection rate that seems to climb inexorably day by day.

Both markets are hugely significant to the future growth of the global international tourism and commercial VIP Hospitality market. At the start of this year, it was projected that by 2025 the outbound Indian MICE market would be worth USD9 billion on its own.

However the coronavirus has undone a lot of those uncertainties and cast a darkening shadow over the prospects for the whole industry.

To try to counteract that sense of gloom was why Charlie was delighted to accept the opportunity to appear on a webinar with industry veteran Shashank Shekar Mishra, who had management roles with TUI, Kuoni and Thomas Cook in India before starting up his own company Sports Konnect in late 2013. The webinar is run by The Dope, an online news resource that covers the travel industry and has more than 40,000 active users.
